A 36-year-old Cambridge man is facing charges after two grab-and-go thefts at Waterloo Region malls, including the Cambridge Centre.

Waterloo Regional Police said on March 12 at approximately 11:55 am, the man allegedly stole an engagement ring from a jewelry store in the Cambridge Centre. Less than two hours later, the police received a report at 1:30 pm of an engagement ring theft at a jewelry store in Conestoga Mall in Waterloo.

In both instances, the man fled the mall in an awaiting vehicle.

Police determined the same man was wanted in both thefts and he was arrested on March 15.

He has been charged with theft under $5,000 (shoplifting), possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, breach of probation order, three counts of driving while under suspension, and three counts of operation of a conveyance while prohibited.

The man was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
