American man finds huge diamond on day out in park

A man who picked up what he thought was a piece of glass at a state park says he later learned his jelly bean-sized find was something much more valuable: It was a 4.87-carat diamond.

Jerry Evans visited Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, for the first time with his girlfriend last spring, he told park officials.

Evans says about 10 minutes after they arrived, he spotted what looked like glass a few feet away on top of a plowed ridge, according to a news release.

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union imposed sanctions on the world’s biggest diamond mining company and its chief executive officer on Wednesday as part of what it called its “unwavering commitment” to Ukraine in the war against Russia.

The move targeted Alrosa, which accounts for about 90% of Russia’s diamond production, and CEO Pavel Marinychev. The EU headquarters said the company “constitutes an important part of an economic sector that is providing substantial revenue” to Moscow.

It means Alrosa’s assets in Europe will be frozen and EU citizens and companies will be barred from making funds available to the company.

A man entered a jewelry store in White Oaks Mall on Wellington Road around 4 pm Wednesday, damaged property with a sledgehammer and stolen items before running away, police said. Nobody was injured.

Man accused of stealing $80K in jewelry from Kohl’s in Crystal Lake – Shaw Local

A man accused of stealing $80,000 worth of jewelry from a Crystal Lake Kohl’s was in custody Monday at the McHenry County jail after being sought on a warrant since June of last year, records show.

John M. Signorile, 49, who lists addresses in Chicago and Schaumburg in court records, is charged with burglary and theft of property worth $10,000 to $100,000, Class 2 felonies, according to the complaint and charged in McHenry County court.

Signorile also is charged with criminal damage to property causing less than $500 in damage, a Class A misdemeanor.
