Cambridge man charged in connection to jewelry store thefts

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a 36-year-old Cambridge male in connection with two thefts occurring at jewelery stores in Cambridge and Waterloo.

On March 12, at approximately 11:55 am, a police respondent reported a theft of an engagement ring at a jewelery store at Cambridge Center Mall.

On the same day, at approximately 1:30 pm, police responded to a second report of an engagement ring theft at a Conestoga Mall jewelery store.

Through investigation, it was determined that the same suspect was involved in both thefts. In both instances, the man fled the mall in an awaiting vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, the man was identified and arrested on March 15.

The accused has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Breach of probation orders
  • Driving while under suspension (three counts)
  • Operation of a conveyance while prohibited (three counts)

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
