Piaget Unveils Expansive Metaphoria Collection Of Unusual Watches

Categories:

As if witnessing a host of stunning pendant watches unveiled by Piaget during Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023 were not enough – the brand dazzles us now with a collection of watches that includes a secret ring watch, a secret bracelet watch a stunning gold cuff watch and two wristwatches, along with a jewelry collection that will have the finest jewelry houses in the world green (or blue) with envy. The new Metaphoria collection is inspired by nature but goes way beyond exactly replicating waterfalls and gardens.

Piaget is no stranger to innovation when it comes to jewelry and watches. The brand has been creating jewelry for decades. In fact, in 1969, Yves Piaget released his “21st Century Collection” of jewelry that was definitely ahead of its time. He turned to gemstones such as coral, turquoise, tiger eye and others to create large, sculpted gold cuff bracelets and pendant watches that showcased the brand’s savoir faire.

Now, with this new collection, Stephanie Sivriere, creative director at Piaget, says the brand wanted to offer figurative interpretations of nature, “such as the flow of a waterfall or the rays of the sun, while inspiring a particular emotion.” By turning to gold, gemstones, precious wood and even insects elytra, Piaget offers an unexpected yet deeply stirring collection of timepieces and jewelry in the Metaphoria line.

The collection consists of 52 pieces, all artfully and innovatively conveying flowing water, textures and bold colors that occur in nature. There are 11 watches and 41 pieces of jewelery in the series—making it one of the most prolific high jewelery unveilings by the brand in years.

Easily one of the shining stars of the watch is the Adrivea ring watch. The high-jewelry ring boasts a center 10.88-carat aquamarine cabochon that lifts to reveal the watch dial beneath it. The dial and bezel are entirely set with diamonds and the ring’s entire shank is set with diamonds and blue sapphires.

A magnificent white gold, diamond and emerald bangle watch, called Foliatura, is designed to emulate the lush green foliage found in gardens. The bangle is set with diamonds and chrysoprase as leaves and a 6.59-carat cushion-cut Colombian emerald takes center stage as the focal point on one side of the bangle. On the other side of the bangle sits a diamond-set watch dial – enabling the wearer to showcase either side.

Additionally, a sculpted bangle bracelet watch, part of the Alata suite, boasts gold and mother-of-pearl leaves, interspersed with diamond-set leaves, brought together to create a spectacular bangle bracelet with center watch dial. The gold is hand worked to create ripples on the leaves and the dial outer bezel boasts the same pattern. The center of the dial is set with diamonds. The other pieces in this set include an earcuff and a necklace.

Piaget also unveiled a few Métiers d’Art wristwatches with straps but with dials that have a real twist to them. One, the 18-karat white gold Alitura, boasts a mosaic dial made of pieces of black opal, sodalite, lavender chalcedony, pietersite and diamond-set sections for a dramatic appeal. The watch is powered by an ultra-thin hand-wound movement and finished with a blue alligator strap. Just 8 pieces of the 36mm watch will be made.

There is also the 41mm white gold Undulata wristwatch with offset dial and open aperture for viewing the extra-thin mechanical flying tourbillon escapement in the Caliber 670P. The dial itself boasts an undulating pattern of waves made of some unusual materials, including sycamore wood, straw, leather, parchment and elytra. The dial is made by Rose Saneuil. The bezel is set with diamonds and only eight pieces will be made.

In fact, all of the wearable works of art in the Metamorphia collection are either one-of-a-kind or incredibly limited editions.
